Giro (Turn) - Port Chester Arts Festival
A mobile library-workshop enabling conversations and book creation inspired by the ‘movimiento cartonero’ (cardboard movement), a 20+ year old tradition in Latin America, that reveals important aspects of our culture, like improvisation and collectivity.
Giro happened as an activation in Crawford Park during the programming of the Port Chester Arts Festival. Families were invited to imagine and assemble books with cardboard cover and blank sheets, from start to finish, in their own time, using pencils, crayons, and glue.
“Which dreams move your body?” is the question-invitation to the installed space, composed by a few simple examples and guidelines. The installation can be featured as a standalone project or as part of a larger exhibition (eg: an art exhibition, a book fair, a workshop).
