Giro (Turn) - If Not a Note, a Chasm

Giro (Turn): which dreams move your body? is a mobile library-workshop enabling conversations and bookmaking inspired by the ‘movimiento cartonero’ (cardboard movement), a 20+ year old tradition in Latin America, that reveals important aspects of our culture, like improvisation and collectivity.

In this installation as part of the exhibition "If Not a Note, a Chasm" (Port Chester, NY), people from all ages are invited to imagine and assemble books with cardboard cover and blank sheets, from start to finish, in their own time, using pencils, crayons, and glue. Alternatively, one can create standalone pages that will be shared and composed with other people’s work. For those that just want to look, a small library is available, featuring books that inspire dreams and movement.

“Which dreams move your body?” is the question-invitation to the installed space, composed by a few simple examples and guidelines. The installation can be featured as a standalone project or as part of a larger exhibition (eg: an art exhibition, a book fair, a workshop).
